Born in Lübeck, Germany, of Danish parents, Amalie Malling took piano lessons from Herman D. Koppel in Copenhagen for seven years and, following her debut at seventeen in the Tivoli Concert Hall, went on to study with Hans Leygraf at the Staatliche Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Hannover and Georg Vásárhelyi at the Jutland Academy of Music, as well as with Alfred Brendel.
A winner of several prizes and scholarships, she has performed across Europe, North America and Japan and worked particularly closely with the soprano Henriette Bonde-Hansen, flautist Janne Thomsen, pianist Hans Pålsson, cellist Morten Zeuthen and the Esbjerg Ensemble, among others.
Her wide-ranging repertoire includes Kuhlau’s Piano Concerto, Op. 7 and Grieg’s Piano Concerto, Op. 16 which she has recorded for Chandos with the Danish National Symphony Orchestra and Michael Schønwandt.
In 1981 Amalie Malling was appointed professor of piano at the Royal Danish Music Academy in Copenhagen.
